What is the difference between a yoga teacher/instructor and a yoga therapist?

A yoga teacher provides instruction on yoga techniques. The focus of a yoga therapist is less about teaching general yoga techniques and more about applying specific yoga techniques to help a person reduce the symptoms they may be dealing with.

What is the difference between a yoga therapist and a physical therapist?

Physical therapists are train to evaluate and treat pain and movement disorders. They focus on identifying the cause of the pain/dysfunction and work specifically on treating that dysfunction. Yoga therapists can be considered lifestyle management experts. Their training focuses on the therapeutic applications of yoga. Yoga therapists assess clients from a holistic perspective - physically, energetically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. The yoga therapist’s goal is not to treat a specific pain or illness, but rather to empower their client and support physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Yoga therapy can complement other medical treatments. Although yoga therapists aren’t focused on “fixing,” the tools they offer clients typically facilitate healing and often result in the resolution of pain or disease. Both physical therapists and yoga therapists have a unique role in healthcare, with different scopes of practice and approaches to care. Always let your healthcare providers know if you decide to add yoga therapy to your care.

What can I expect of my first session?

Our first appointment will consist of an intake and assessment and will last approximately 55 minutes. You will receive a personalized routine designed for your needs to practice until our next session. Your routine could include: Movement ranging from gentle to vigorous Breathing techniques Meditation or visualization practices Physical postures that address specific areas of discomfort or musculoskeletal imbalances During our second and subsequent appointments, we will develop a therapeutic practice and work together towards your goals and lifestyle changes.

Where do we meet for our sessions?

Lessons are typically conducted online via Skype, FaceTime, Zoom, or by phone. If you would like to schedule an in-person lesson, please contact me via email.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your condition and receptivity for change. Yoga therapy works on patterns and chronic issues that will require repatterning, lifestyle changes, and new habits. After your initial session, you will receive an assessment and a recommendation of sessions. If you are diligent and consistent with the work and applying the recommendations, it is realistic to expect results around 3 months.


Until I began to practice with Natalie, I tried yoga at a number of yoga studios and gyms. I often found myself injured. Through Natalie's knowledge of the human body; her precise, technical instructions; and her warmth, compassion and sense of humor, I have a better understanding of my body.
